Day 1: Arrival & Unwind at Knockshannoch
Arriving at Charlotte Pass
Your journey begins with a scenic oversnow from Perisher Valley to Charlotte Pass, Australia’s highest resort village. Enjoy the adventure of travelling up the hill in purpose built oversnow vehicles an arriving in style in our car-free village. Once you reach Knockshannoch, you’ll immediately feel the calm alpine atmosphere. This cozy yet classic accommodation offers a mix of rustic charm and luxury, making it the perfect place to kick off your weekend retreat.
Settle In and Explore the Lodge
After you settle into Knockshannoch Ski Lodge, take a moment to explore the accommodation. With its panoramic mountain views and comfortable amenities, it’s easy to relax and soak in the tranquillity of the Snowy Mountains. The venue offers cosy, beautifully furnished rooms, a spacious communal lounge with a warm gas fireplace and village views, and easy access to nature and the great outdoors. Ideal for unwinding after your journey and for planning your next move.
Dinner and Sunset
Kick off your first evening with a relaxed yet refined, three course meal. In a small lodge that prides itself on gourmet cuisine, you can be sure your meals will be the highlight of the weekend. Afterward, if the skies are clear, don’t miss the stunning sunset over the mountains. The clear air and expansive views make for a magical sight as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange. We recommend making a drink and going for a walk over the river to the bottom of the slopes to watch a truly special view of the world. ,
Day 2: Adventure in Kosciuszko National Park
Morning: Hit the Slopes
If you’re visiting Charlotte Pass during the winter season, skiing is a must-do activity. As Australia’s highest ski resort, Charlotte Pass offers some of the best skiing conditions in the country. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or a beginner, the variety of slopes ensures a fun day on the snow for all skill levels. And the limited guest numbers mean no lift queues (unless your kids beat you down the hill!!) so we use the chair lift as an opportunity to rest weary legs!
After a fully-cooked breakfast at Knockshannoch, head out to the slopes. The best part: Knockshannoch Lodge is ski-in, ski-out. No lugging heavy skis, boards or gear to lifts. Just exit the door, click your boots in and head off down through the village to the T-Bar.
You’ll have access to a range of trails—from gentle beginner runs to more advanced slopes. The beauty of Charlotte Pass is its uncrowded atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy the pristine snow without long lift lines. Fancy something a little more adventurous? Head off piste and play in the powder or the trees… or both! All within easy access of the village.
Snowboarding & Snowshoeing
If skiing isn’t your thing, snowboarding is another exciting option at Charlotte Pass. The resort offers excellent snowboarding terrain, and the powdery conditions make for smooth, thrilling rides.
Alternatively, for a more leisurely activity, rent snowshoes and explore the winter wonderland at your own pace. Snowshoeing allows you to enjoy the quieter parts of the alpine landscape while getting in a good workout.
Lunch on the Mountain
When you’re ready for a break, grab lunch at one of the mountain restaurants or return to the lodge for a quick bite. Each day the Knockshannoch offers hot soups, sandwiches and other small bites so you can get back on the slopes quickly. Refuel with some warm comfort food to keep you going for the rest of the day on the slopes.
Afternoon: More Time on the Slopes or Après Ski
After lunch, hit the slopes again for more skiing or snowboarding action. Take advantage of Charlotte Pass’ high-altitude snow conditions and explore some of the steeper trails or try the resort’s fun snow parks.
For those who prefer to relax, spend the afternoon enjoying some après ski. Unwind with a hot chocolate or a mulled wine at one of the cosy alpine cafés, or head back to Knockshannoch to relax by the fireplace to chat with new friends (or even tiptoe off for an afternoon snooze!).
Evening: Cosy Dinner & Relaxation
After a thrilling day in the snow, retreat to Knockshannoch for a relaxed evening. Settle in to enjoy a delicious, fresh cooked, three-course dinner, or let your lodge managers know you’ll be out for the night and treat yourself to a meal at the Chalet. Either way, you’ll be able to savour a well-earned reward after a day on the slopes.
Finish the day relaxing by the fire with a glass of wine or hot cocoa, or wander out to enjoy some stargazing if the skies are clear. There’s no better way to wind down after an adventurous day in the snow than in the comfort of your mountain retreat.
Day 3: Leisure & Departure
Morning: Relaxation at Knockshannoch
Depending on your departure time, feel free to hit the slopes for a couple of final runs.
But if you’re pressed for time, start your final day slowly. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at Knockshannoch while taking in the crisp mountain air. Use the morning to relax in the Lodge, whether it’s by the fireplace or cuddled up to the window with a book. The peaceful ambiance at Knockers allows you to savour every last moment of your alpine retreat.
Short Scenic Walks
Before heading back home, take one last stroll through the nearby nature trails. The Snow Gums Boardwalk is a gentle, family-friendly walk that offers an easy way to appreciate the unique flora of the alpine region. It’s a great way to close your trip on a peaceful note. In snow season, you can either hike up the hill or take the Chairlift to the top and walk the ridgeline to the start point of the short boardwalk.
